I just replaced my surcoat after 12 years. It was made of a double layer of trigger. The thing about trigger is that it starts off very stiff, but after you use it and wash it a few times it starts to soften up and hangs very nicely when worn. Frankly, I havent found anything as tough and that holds...

[quote="Josh Warren] The "I'm okay, you're okay" attitude leads to apathy; except for a handful of shining stars in the SCA, nobody wants to improve once they've met the basic requirements to play. As for groups with higher standards, look at Europe. The situation there is the opposite of what it is...

Beathan,

Nice work. :)

Im still waiting for a quote for the breastplate/backplate in SS.

Have you had a chance to find out if you can use a locking pin on the visor of the regular(simple) armet similiar to the sugarloaf?

If someone enters Crown, and is blatantly cheating, it is within the Crown's right to throw them out on the spot (actually they can throw anyone out for anything they like pretty much). And yet, I've never heard of this being done, let alone seen it done; perhaps banning them in future Crowns, but ...

Does anyone have a pattern for a Cromwell era English pot helm?

If so, would you be willing to share it? :D

Thanks in advance for the help.

Do any of the game systems make use of actual skill with a weapon to increase its damage potential rather than just strength. There is a basic amount of damage any weapon can do but in the hands of someone who knows how to use it there is an increased chance in actual aimed for damage. This is not ...

Our group uses High Adventure Role-Playing (HARP) from ICE.

In fact, several of the Armour Archive members appear in a supplement book that was published last year.

Feel free to ask Halvgrimr and Insane Irish for their autographs if you like. :D

mrks, if you are refering to the armet I posted it only has a 16ga visor. If you are taking face thrusts that are crumpling solid 16ga visors then you are playing a game I have no wish to play. A thrust is not the only way to get hit in the face..... I have one of ACs sugarloaf helmets. Ive been us...

Gauntlets for Rebatted Steel Fighting

Greetings, For those that fight using live/rebatted steel, what kind of gauntlets do you prefer? Currently I have some standard clamshells. I have a set of finger gauntlets in the process of being finished. I would assume that the finger gauntlets would allow better handling of the sword, but how do...

ticeetal, I would contact Halvgrim. He is a good source for this kind of information. Sir Mord, Paul Chen makes rebatted steel weapons for use in "live steel" fighting. His Viking swords are pretty common for these types of groups. They are built with blunt tips and edges. They are commonly referred...

I know a guy who made a gothic tracery chest (it got featured in Fine WoodWorking) out of black walnut. It was entirely hand-carved.. no routers.. all gouges. It _LITERALLY_ lost an A&S competition to something along the lines of a board with a hinge nailed to it.. because of documentation issues. ...

Part of the problem with selling on Ebay is that most people go there looking for used equipment or really good deals. Granted, over the last few years its has been turning into a "retail price" environment, which is unfortunate. If you want the best compensation for your work, I wouldnt use Ebay.

If you lost a fight you lost stones. If you won a fight, you received a number of stones from the loser depending on t...
