Matt, Having a nice rig does give one more confidence. There can be a downside, however. I had only been fighting for a couple of years and I had a really nice rig at the time. At a war, I was mistaken for some Duke who's colors where the same as mine. I spent most of the day running away from entir...

Acid Etching on Stainless Steel
Greetings, I hope someone can help me. I want to try doing some acid etching on my stainless steel armor pieces. What kind of acid solution works best on stainless? I have heard of some people using electricity to accelerate the etching process. How does that work? Thanks in advance for the help.

He is mistaken about removing the bad feedback. Ebay will not allow the negative feedback to be removed, even if the person that posted it requests that it be done. The best anyone can hope for is to have it not count towards your rating, but it is still readable. If he promised this in exchange for...

I think the reason he has the $320 listed as shipping is to avoid paying Ebay for the price of the auction. Doesnt Ebay set the fee for the auction based on the final sale price? The higher the selling price, the more money Ebay charges you? Shipping is not included in the calculation. I could be wr...

I have heard many times that the SCA is trying to re-create the middle ages as "it should have been" not necessarily as it was. I agree with this ideal. We fight tournaments and wars with wooden weapons and imitations, but its done with honor and respect. No one dies and no one loses their lands whe...

Fetters, I was at Estrella II or maybe it was Estrella III when they had a duel style rapier tournament. Basically at the start of the tournament each participant was given 2 ribbons. When you lost a duel, you lost a ribbon and gave it to your opponent. When you lost all your ribbons, you were out o...

I will probably get shot for saying this but...... I think its possible that rapier fighting could someday be seen as an official part of the martial activities in Calontir, but there are some HUGE obstacles in its path. The biggest obstacle is the rapier fighting itself. The fighters just dont take...

[SCA] Are the fighters getting old?
Greetings, A group of us were sitting around having a BBQ the other night after a demo and I noticed something interesting. With the exception of one, the fighters in our shire are all above the age of 30. We have a total of 10 fighters, so thats 90%. When I started back in high school/college I rem...

There is nothing wrong with him wearing that helmet. It may not be period, but so what? Armorers do custom helms all the time and if he has the money, let him where whatver he wants. If its safe and he feels comfortable wearing it, let him do what HE feels he wants to do to enjoy the sport. Ive seen...

I just don't understand people within the SCA who seem to always push for a my way or the highway mind set. I dont believe that is the case. They are simply saying its not currently allowed and until it is approved by the BOD and the Marshallate, we are not supporting it. The SCA didnt start out wi...

Greetings, Personally, I think the biggest reason that Steel Fighting (notice I didnt call it live steel, cause it isnt) is not something that will ever get wide acceptance is its return-value. What do I mean by return-value? Let me explain. When I fight in the SCA its full-speed. I have a chance to...

(SCA) Top mistakes by experienced fighters WITH new fighters

So, lets discuss the lessons we have learned in helping or training new fighters as they begin their training. Person...

I think the term "live steel" is used in two contexts on these forums. When the SCA refers to "live steel" we are usually talking about a real sword, complete with a sharp edge. New members and younger members are warned about the dangers of "live steel" and told to stay away from them so they dont ...
