Yes, I think its possible to have too much armor as a new fighter. Not because of calibration issues, but simply because they are not ready to wear that much gear. Fact in point, several years ago there was a new fighter in our shire (who shall remain nameless ). He just recently received his new se...

Re: Why the SCA can't change.

[ As it stands right now the SCA is pretty self-serving and self-involved for a non-profit organization. I know a few baronies that routinely make appearances at charity events and help out local schools and such....but on the whole most demos are basically recruiting drives for the SCA itself and ...

Splinter, Have you tought about coming up with your own construction of weapons? If this sport is going to take off, then its reasonable to pursue the possibility of unique weapon construction. Using steel has dangers and requires the participants to pull their shots at the last instant to prevent s...

Greetings, I looked at the "live steel" videos and to be honest, I dont think it was any more impressive than SCA fighting. Different, yes. Better, No. Personally, I hate seeing members of either fighting community throwing insults at each other. We are all in a very unique sport/past-time/hobby and...

Hi Pat, Go here: m and get in touch with them. Like Shane and I are doing with the joust, they can probably help you set up the ArenaCombat. Splinter, Ive read your posts about the "real" jousting and "real" foot combat and I felt compelled to voice an opinion. Sugarloaf with a visor?

Greetings,

I have a sugarloaf helm that I currently use, and I really like the overall appearance, but breathing between fights without taking the helm off is terrible.

Has anyone ever seen a sugarloaf with a visor? Im interested in any designs or ideas anyone may have.

Thanks,

You can think up a thousand examples where it would be an absurdity. "Hey, titanium existed, prove no one used it!" And so on. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence, but it's far and away worse evidence of presence... Marshal, We are not talking the creation of a new metal alloy, Im talkin...

Two weapons fighting

I think people sometimes confuse "period" for "popular" or "normal." Just because there are few artistic drawings of anyone using two swords, or two maces, or two axes doesnt mean it wasn't done. Some say "Prove they did it that way." I say "Prove they didn't!" I find it hard to believe that out of ...

Hello, Im not sure about the idea that two-swords against a pole is a losing proposition for the two weapon fighter. For me, it works best to let that pole-arm/greatsword get his one shot and then you close in on him. Usually the fights over at that point since defending at close range against two w...

Butcher's Cloth

Hello,

Does anyone have a source for ordering this? You used to be able to order sheets of the aluminum metal discs with pre drilled holes and all you had to do was break them off and weave them together with chain links.

Thanks,
