I spoke with my fighter friends who did hear the comment, but at the time didn't register what the man was aluding to, and both when they thought back said it was very strange and yes, offensive. I hope it was meant as a joke. But normally if someone is joking, rarely does it come from a stranger wh...

I just received my Laurel this weekend for cooking. I'd be more than happy to face this guy with a rolling pin. I promise I'll duct tape it. He he. If I were a cooking Laurel it might have made more sense. I admit it took me a minute to even register. While I'm a pretty good period cook, I avoid ba...

Problems like these solve themselves. John Jehan de Pelham, ecuyer and servant of Sir Vitus www.mron.org I agree. This person has definitely started making a name for himself without even bringing up the above incident. I have always found that those who make comments about female fighters often ha...

My lady once you are healed you would do me great honor to cross swords. We may end up relocated to San Diego so mayhap then or sooner. I would be most happy to! I walked a lot the last two days and so far so good. My knee has been frustratingly slow to heal. Everytime I've tried pellwork so far, t...

It is a sad fact that there will never be a shortage of asshats in this world. While righteous indignation is occasionally satisfying, I would suggest your own sang-froid would be better served by not giving this cad the gift of very much more of your attention. As you are a Peer, and Arion a Knigh...

I day-tripped to Potrero war yesterday. I couldn't make it Saturday and am still recovering from knee surgery, so I didn't arm up. After the last battle I was talking with some friends when this one guy walked up to us to say something to the guys who were still in armor. My friend who is a very lar...

I think that if An Tir wins three An Tir-West wars in a row we can say that Sir Daniels approach also has proven itself. I agree that warfighting excellence is often built on non-peers, but it doesn't have to be in conflict with what Daniel has done. Indeed, my impression from his initial post is t...

Interesting, but in the history of other strong war kingdoms it has been the unbelted leaders of large units who have made the most difference in improving war fighting, as well as increasing the quality of those units. Some Knights have helped with this and all these kingdoms now have some number o...

Look more to see where these problems lie, each fighter is hit multiple times, many of the shots thrown are sloppily, with poor blade control (flats), poor mechanics, bad footing, and a lot of excess movement.- It was generally a very sloppy fight, lots of flats thrown, a lot of messy blocks or alm...

The righty was throwing a lot of fast shots, but based on the body mechanics, many looked like they could be all arm to me, so as a spectator I wouldn't have been all that concerned. Or perhaps I come from an area where there is a higher calibration? Or is the righty some mega-stronger than normal g...

Most bases will require that you present a valid photo ID of every adult in the vehicle and submit your vehicle for inspection and possiblly a visitors pass. Some will require proof of registration and insurance as well. That's all I've ever required when going on various bases. I have never needed...

The only time it bothered me to be stepped on was back in Burro Creek II when our side had to climb a sand bank during the battle. I died at the bottom of the bank and they used me and the top of my flat top helm as a stepping stone to climb the bank. It wouldn't have been so bad, but that made my h...

It is a Marshal's job to call shots flat or to the wrong spot, as likely happened here... g- Yup. Things a marshal can and should call: flats, hit by a shield instead of the sword, hit by something other than the sword (armor, own sword, basket hilt), bad target recognition (i.e. the blow hit below...

I think people under estimate how much properly made period clothing might lessen a blow as well. Going through multiple layers of linen and heavy wool and often some padding too makes a HUGE difference for cuts. People weren't out there fighting nekid. Nor were they wearing a single thin poly-cotto...

I have yet to meet the fighter who can turn a committed sword swing into a thrust, once again, note that I said committed sword swing... Once you have started throwing a snap or a wrap or an offside, you physically can't change a swing into a thrust.... I have done this occasionally and so has my h...
