At some point a Marshal can call a fight if he thinks things are dangerous but truely, it rarely gets to that. If everyone seems happy, or at least communicating in a civil way, I leave it alone. Usually if it appears that the above scenario is happening, where someone is repeatedly besting another,...

There are some opponents who's body language makes it seem like they are taking the shot and that it is good, only to find them throwing a blow at your head the second you hesitate. If someone has a pattern of doing so, I hope the Chivalry will have a talk with them. Whether they mean to or not, us...

For those coming out to Estrella, besides face thrusts, thrusts to the sides, back and top of the helm are legal here and one is expected to take it if it is a solid shot. "Nailing earholes" (an oblique shot to the side of the helm by a spearman) is a common tactic and if someone does't take one tha...

However, as I see it, everyone should assume that every blow they throw was NOT good until they get that confirmation. with respect, Malcolm I agree. In my experience, it has always been the convention to do your best to stop once you've noticed that confirmation, but to continue throwing unless yo...

No one is being dragged through the mud. I got the impression this was being actually presented as a "new philosophy" and some of the newer guys were wondering if they should do it too.

Just wondering if there was any trend happening.

So how do we fix this? I'm not sure. I dont' know that there is a singular fix, however feedback seems to be important. In my experience, most of the people who have general calibration issues don't normally limit that to specific events so feedback during practices seems like the best way to at le...

I have heard rumors that there are fighters who have admitted that they purposefully throw extra hard blows after they know a person has yeilded as an intimidation factor for future fights.

What do people feel about that?

Yes and no. If the person does not acknowledge, don't assume, keep throwing. However in my opinion it is rude to keep throwing after someone has clearly acknowledged your victory. Its like calling someone a liar by assuming they are going to back out of their word. It would give the appearance that ...

treat it like your goal is to score as many points(hits) as possible before your opponent falls over. -Brand Generally agree with you, except with a slight modification from "falls over" to "acknowledges your victory". This isn't a response to anyone in particular. Many many years ago there were slightly more than a handful of fighters that would end up in 2 hour final rounds with each other (no kidding, we timed it), and often long long bouts with others who seemed to have bested them. As one would expect, back i...

i would disagree a little with that a round sword wont feel off if its flat. when a proper blow is thrown, on edge, the wrist can only move so far and the muscles controlling that movement are much stronger than the ones controlling the wrist in the other direction. its like the amount of power you...

But history and observation can get us most of the way there, and let their ill repute grow. But could the whole cycle be stopped early if a few respected Marshals and reknowned fighters took the person aside and talked to them? In many cases, I think so. But if everyone who does that is considered...

I agree with Vitus on the "flat" issue. When a sword has shaved sides, it can actually feel/sound wrong, but if someone is using round rattan, that method won't work. If you can see the blade and the wrist, you may be able to call it flat, but otherwise an honorable fighter is at the mercy of the go...

Do any of you think you could replicate these? A foundry told a guy on the Silver Streak Trailer list that they'd do a pair for $250. My asthma is pretty bad. Sometimes it tires me out so I don't fight as much as I should.
