best 50$ from harbour freight

Post by Vladimir_Derkach »

I am looking to start plate armoring and i heard about harbor freight here. lemme clear something up: is it just an internet store or do they have diff locations in some places?
i have about 50$ so far for armouring tools, and since thats what gets you free shipping from their web site, i think i want to buy my stuff there.

what is your guys' recomendation for the best 50$ to spend on harbour freight.

i looked at the hammer and dolly car repair set, and what else should i get?

i dont think i have enuff money for everything, but i got at least some aviation snips already to cut thin metal with. if i cant get enuff tools at least what do i need to for general stuff and to make a greathelm and spaudlers? (think those will be my first projects)

Hi a very useful thing would be the hand punch

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=44060

its very cheap and it works well... i got mine and it is very helpfull

one thing its 19$ and consider that the real one is 65$ dollar so you get what you pay... mine has already two dies ( thing that pierce holes) broken so...

i strongly suggest saving more and buying quality tools...

i got myself the hammer and dolli set... very crappy thay could be useful but the quality is not consistant... so ill let you decide.. sur you get 3 hammer for the price of one pedinghaus hammer... but , again learn from my experience... even if you add all the usefulness of all 3 hammer and compare it to a pendinghaus hammer, the pendinghaus hammer is still winning (in my opinion)

also, i got the THROATLESS SHEAR http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=38413

a very good buy in my opinnion, i just cant afford 600$ for a B-2.... armour is just a hobby... for now Image so a hf shear is the solution.. I've not used aviation snips but can it really cut 18g steel? if your hulk maybe Image

my two cents

hope it helps

used stuff store(dont know name in english) can be good too for hammer

buy an angle grinder, it will allow you to cut big plate and finish whit snip, as well as sanding and lot of other thing(remove rivet, remove bit of metal for better fit whitout deforming whit snip, etc)

If you can find a good pawn shop.I'll bet that you can find A jig saw and several hammers for that fifty bucks you have.

I second the opinions on pawn shops, I bought all my hammers, punches and other nifty items at about a third of the cost and they work great. Alll my power tools you could find there also but I bought my bench grinder at Lowes. Welcome to the world of armouring

Angle grinder. Also go to a welding supply place and get the velcro attachment for sanding pads and paper. Saves hours of work when finishing pieces.
