buckler edge rolling

how do i roll the edge on a buckler without making the roll look like an octagon. do i use a smaller stake or what.

Simple, a rounded stake will do the trick. That's what I use anyway. I dont know if there is a way to do it on a straight one.

Get a piece of 1/8" piano wire. I found mine at ace hardware. Make sure it's high carbon. I bought some regular mild, which is crap. With that, you can weld it (on the ends) to the tip of a chisel or a bar. Use that to pound it into a wooden form first, then after you've done that to the entire roll, finish the roll on the edge of a block of wood or the edge of your anvil. Look
here for a good diagram. They show how to do it with a cross pein, but that would make it easier for you to get a crease in it, rather than a rounded edge with the modified chisel.
