Guantlet advice

Post by Ckanite »

I'm still in the arduous task of teaching myself how to make fingered gauntlets and I was wondering if there were any tricks to sewing the leather strip that runs up the inside of the fingers to the host glove. I had an idea to, after riveting the finger tip to the strip, glue the first section to the glove and then wrap the excess leather around and stitch it palm side. The steel extends far enough to make contact with the haft of my ax so I dished it pretty deep... any advice would be quite welcome!!

Yes gluing everything in place can help.
However it limits your flexibility.

Punch all the holes first.
Use heavy waxed artificial sneeu thread.
Use two needles, one on each end of the thread.
Straight double stitch and trim the excess leather sticking out the sides.
Use the belt sander to make a clean edge.

Best of luck, and pics would be nice.

I always figure on running the stitches through the seams on the glove fingers, and tend to choose undergauntlet gloves for convenience in putting the attachment stitches through the raised seams on fingers and any edge parts of the hands.
