Very pretty interpretation of the late Khazarian helmet.

You should have asked -
The methods of maile attachment on these helmets are actualy quite well documented.

.

Thanks,

I have seen the documentation on how they historically were attached. My struggle was with how the customer requested it and what was gonna be practical and something maintable for the rigors of SCA style combat.
We were steering away from leather attachments and such.
It was a learning experience.

And It got shipped out today so Im pretty curious to see what he thinks.

:?: I'm curious what you have seen.
There are four methods that I know about that were found with these helmets -- all strictly metal. No evidence of leather.

Here - a nice Russian fellow created the attached image for some Polish folks who were interested (that's why the text is Polish).
In all cases, the "cord" put through the maile was an iron wire.
I can clarify the diagrams if anyone is interested.

The last one, with the ring "verveiles" should work quite nicely for SCA issues without modification.

I want to make a smart-ass comment about it but...yeah...I won't.

That is absolutely amazing work. Truly that of an artist.

I am in awe.

Norman,

I had seen the first style and third style. in your link.

Those methods all work, I just didnt want to use them with the thick brass brow band.
If the metal was thinner then style 1 would have been a great option.
I stuck with the thicker brass because of the thickness of the nasal plaque.
Maybe next time Ill choose a different method and see how that goes.

Im not a fan of verveilles style.

Thanks for the link.

Curious -
Is it because you have seen failures in SCA combat or is it just a personal aesthetics thing?

Greetings all. I recently received my helm from Master Donngal and I have to say, it truly is beautiful. He is correct when he says the pictures don't due the helm justice. On top of that it fits like a glove. Working with Donngal was a pleasure and really went out of his way to help design this beauty. It was worth the wait. He is an amazing artist.

Here is a pic of the helm with the full kit:

To Donngal and Windrose, thanks for an amazing helm.

Very Nice. Really handsome kit. That picture goes in my "SCA Favorites" folder.
(Even with a helm made by a fellow Polock! )

You know, even the anachronisms in that kit are badass. Very well done........once again the bar has been raised to level not reached by many.
Revenge is a matter of style.
