This is one we made for Dan Bartholomew a couple years ago (please ignore the mess in the background, the pic was taken a week before Pennsic). BTW, we have a couple of these in progress that should make an appearance in a few weeks, and if anyone wants one we might be able to squeeze an order in there with them.

Swoon!

Hey! I still get to keep my Man-card for that, right? It's not like I went "Squeee!" or anything.

moninari(sp) are nearly the right shape arent they?

Actually, it's not surprising -- the momonari is actually based on the european cabasset, so they're sort of distant cousins, removed a few times. :)

Yup, the momonari is the "pear-shape." But it was started as a Japanese version of the cabasset -- which the Japanese reversed back-to-front. They just exaggerated the shape caused by the cabasset's now-forward-pointing spikey bit.

This is lovely.

Question: This seems to have a different finish than the blackened helms currently on your website. Is that just differences in photography?

Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle

I hope this works - I haven't tried posting a picture here before.

Here's the helmet from the side.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/GSwKWT3aLJxhbLMUnpzddA?authkey=Gv1sRgCObppvfqn8fAmwE&feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_aHPuvfinOjo/SGvOmHT5gMI/AAAAAAAAA4k/wjdq_LfxuU4/s400/helmet%20smart%20fixed.jpg"></a>

I love the shovel face since it makes me look much meaner than I do with a bar grill. My holiday plans include some re-working of the chain mail attachment. I'm exploring the idea of trying to do a decorative band in stainless.

It was hard to find a nice phyrgian helmet, so I'm loving this thread!
