So my friend Tomburr and I are really fond of phyrgian helms and of late we have been having a contest to find the coolest one.

please post any pictures that you think dominate and please post with it the owner or maker or both.

Somebody called me out on my love of the Phyrgian, so here are a few of my personal favorites.

If you aren't craving one by now, there's something wrong with you. Needless to say, I'm partial to the blackened steel.

Except it isn't a Phyrgian helmet.

but it does have a shovel face so in my mind it is about 1/2 phyrgian
for me the tree main elements of a phyrgian are: pointy top. Mask or shovel face. Brim.
it has two of three and almost none of the norman type have brims so there neener neener!

I am curious as to where you got the idea that a Phyrgian helmet had to have a shovel face, or any face protection at all for that matter.

Brim? Huh?

He's referring to the actual Phrygian-made helmets, not the look-alike crusader helmets we've been posting.

mine has a faceplate for two reasons first to protect me from getting his in sca combat while not looking like a bargrill.
and secondly because i have a very non scary and non intimidating look about me.
with the faceplate people will sometimes hesitate just enough.

Does anyone have any more pictures of that Windrose phyrgian or know where the original thread is? Did it get swallowed up in the Great Archive Wipe of '08? That would be tragic cause that helm is just so sex-ay.

Yes, I've been obsessing since seeing it again.

No. The phrygian is defined by the forward-pointing skull. It can be just the bowl, a nasal, a shovel face, anything.

The thing you posted is not in any way shape or form a phrygian.

phyrgian helms are based on the caps, no brims or faces there true enough.

you guys are buzzkills.

Well, damn us then for thinking it matters that we mean this and not this when we say "red."

An old one I made, with a poorly shaped skull.

That black one was the first of that style we made. Without the mail, they just don't have the sex appeal IMO, but that one was special. This is one we made for Dan Bartholomew a couple years ago (please ignore the mess in the background, the pic was taken a week before Pennsic). BTW, we have a couple of these in progress that should make an appearance in a few weeks, and if anyone wants one we might be able to squeeze an order in there with them.
