Hello folks a newbie question. I am trying to find the measurements to make a heater style shield. I am making it out of a 2' by 3' piece of aluminum. Is there a set size or does it depend on your physical size as i am a large fellow 6'4" 260lbs.
Thanks LeBref

Generally it's the width of your shoulders by your crotch to the ground.
But I know many big guy's who use smaller shields like Duke Hauoc of House Bender (West Kingdom). I think he's something like 6'6" tall and that shield would be small on someone a foot shorter.
I think if it turns out that what you have is too small (not likely) then use it anyway. It'll be fine.

It really depends on what you want and can use effectively. Anywhere from what Ivan said to Ansteorran barn doors work. 2 x 3 will work.

The best thing I have found that works best for new fighters is to ask to use some of the other fighters shields for a bit till you find one you like to fight with and copy it.
you will also most likely end up moving the strap and handle around till you find the placement that works best for you.
your first shield will be nothing but a test rig so dont think of it as a long term weapon, just a work in progress.

Shield size conventions depend on what SCA Kingdom you live in.
As you appear to live in Midrealm check some of the following resources:

36" is a war-shield in the Middle.
30" is our Crown maximum most of the time.
That said... fight with what you want. And note that its a lot easier to cut a shield down later if you decide its too big.

The standard I have always used has been shoulder to shoulder, nipples to knees. Not as in rectangular, but just for the widest bits. Makes it easy to ensure that my torso and naughtybits get due protection.
