No apologies needed for butting in, Drust, it's all good. (On the 'Net, nobody can hear you clear your throat anyway.) And if we didn't want to be bothered we wouldn't be here.

RJ Leahy in San Francisco.

ABCD Industries on Light Street in Baltimore. No web presence; these guys are very oldfashioned. But you can order by snailmail anyway, or phone.

Couple of sources in the Chicago area too.

In an emergency, large nails will do.

Jay-Cee Sales & Rivet Inc.

Hanson Rivet Scroll to bottom of page. They got eentsy ones if you want them.

I agree with RJ Leahy rivet company as a good source.
I find nails to be a bit hard.

I have used nails in the past for rivets,& you are correct they can be quite hard, I have found laying them on a firebrick & heating them up to a dull red& letting cool to normalize makes a BIG difference.

Becareful doing that.
Many nails are treated with Paint, galvanized, or Glue. The fumes can't be good for you.

Copper nails can work well. I know a few people use Ebay for finding rivets but it can take time to find what your looking for at a decent price.

I usualy get copper rivets for leather straps from

I just throw a roll or two of nails in the fire pit after I have a party in the summer to anneal them. I usually end up with enough to last all year long, and since it's outdoors and as I'm leaving, it doesn't do any harm, though I rather would like to get my hands on real rivets...
