That looks heaps good dude. How do you do the cool pattern on the leather though?

Looks nice. Do yourself a favor and edge the perimiter with some kind of trim. I feel like that is what makes the difference between nice lamellar kits and great ones.

Amen owen,

Magnus your stuff always looks super sweet, you make me feel like the ugly girl at prom.

Awesome. Is that hand carved or do you have some sort of quick stamping method? Also, where'd you get those small concho's on either side? Looks fantastic, please post a fuller pic when the rig is complete :)

very nice tooling. The brass sets it apart nicely.

great job

I love the leather work.

The plates look like they'd be too rigid horizontaly.
If you can't put the center hole in, you may want to alternate in a leather strap for the flexibility.

You heartless tease!

DAYUM!

Looks sweet! :D

I agree with Owen about adding trim on the perimeter, though.

I also agree with Owen about trim on the perimeter.

The little brass squares are from armourandcastings.com

I'll be putting a belt strip into it for flexibility.

It's hand tooled, yes.

Thanks for all the kind words, pretty pleased with how it's coming along.

I'm pondering whether I want to do a leather edge that goes right around the edge, or one that is just behind it and comes out 1/2" (like how the upper chest is mounted).

It'll accomplish the same "finished" edge but stay uniform to the look.

Hmmm... I'll ponder it more when I get to it.

At least it's lamellar, not like it's one giant piece that I'm going to ruin, I can adjust it.

I see what you mean, and I think that would look great too. Depends on the coverage you want of the plates though right? As far as the look, it would work. Honestly I've not seen anything you do that doesn't look awesome anyway. Can't wait till you post pics of the finished piece :)

What guage are the brass plates? Must be kinda heavy, compared to the last rig. Weren't those anodized Aluminum with a brass look?

My last body piece was chain (16lbs) over Aircraft Alum Lam (8lbs).

My new one I think is going to hover around 18lbs. But I think I'll be forced to ditch the chain or I'll probably die.... so overall the weight will be less since I won't have the chain.

Time to start saving pennies for a titanium hauberk? heh

I'd definitely do an edging that folds around the front. That would set it apart with a much more finished look, beyond what great things the setup's already got going for it. Just having a single layer extending behind the plates would be a bit plain.

Cool, Drx plates:)

I worked in his shop at GW and used my store credit to purchase a couple hundred plates just like those:)

I hadnt considered that construction method but its damned sexy:)

Could we see pics of the entire rig and maybe with it on?

What did you use for lace?

I used leather thong on the one I built a couple years ago for a friend but after getting half of this one assemebled Im starting to worry that the thong I got wont be as durable as the last stuff I got (the new stuff is about half as wide as the previous stuff)

I was going to try silk lace this time but I cant sell myself on doing so now that I have the plates on hand.

I'm using paracord for lace, after everything is done I may start thinking of different options.

But it's brass so it's fairly heavy... I'd gladly use leather if I was confident it'd hold up.. maybe brown to match the leather on it.. hmmm.

Looks sweet Magnus! If you do get rid of your chain PM me. If it's the same one I traded you, I'd like a shot at getting it back...it will fit me now :)

It's the same one, a touch beat up, the steel moths have had their way with it.

You could always cut a strip out of the middle of the maille to reduce weight?

Still and all, if it's only a couple of holes, I'd be interested. PM should you decide to sell it.
