Wisby #24 or type 5

Post by Leikr »

Has anyone made a Wisby #24 as seen over here http://www.hoashantverk.se/hantverk/hoas_rustningar/source/suit_of_armour_no_24_front.html. Searches on type 5 or #24 returns pretty much every coat of plates thread, while interesting to read, does not show me any good info. Curious on construction techniques and materials.

My body armour is Type 24 style construction with Type 25 lamellar. Works great and easy to get in and out of.

That is some nice looking lamellar. I bet the front closure makes it an easy on and off situation. I have leather lamellar sort of based around the Wisby plates. Side closure. Not too difficult to get on. I am curious to know oh the type 24 with a leather covering may work. Never having tried on brigadine, i am not sure how well it fits and moves. I like the CoP but I think the 24 has the best tailored look about it.

Thanks. I really like it and it's nice to have armor I can get in and out of myself.

Yeah, I went from a traditional COP, closure in the back, to the lamellar and it made a huge difference in heat disipation and mobility. I liked the COP, but the Lamellar is better for me. There is conjecture on whether the Type 24 plate were all riveted directly to the leather chassis, or where laced together in sections and those sections riveted to the leather cover.

Leather covered amd leather lamellar seems to retain alot of heat, so I think a Type 24 armour can look great, it's going to be on the warm, heavy side.
