hi everyone,

Finished this helm about a month ago for a customer. I did learn something but I forget. That probably sounds like a joke but I have a shocking memory.

Heres my tips:

1. Use a creasing tool to do the raising at the top of the frame to get a nice sharp line.
2. The frame did change shape as I fitted the plates. I thought the plates were close but I will be more aware of this next time and make them an even better fit. I managed to adjust it as each plate went on.
3. Dish the plates so they are all the same shape.
4. 4mm Nasal bar was heated on a forge.
5. Hand sand for an interesting look.

Excellent nasal on that one. Most people don't seem to get the size or flare on them to look right at all, when compared to either the extant pieces or artistic representation. This seems spot on. It has a very 11th century feel, to me - right at home on the Bayeux Tapestry, perhaps?

Thankyou for the compliments. As a fighter myself, I also wanted to make sure it had good vision, which the taper allows for.

I think it came out very nice.
The finish is realistic and not 21st century polished.
I like em like that.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Hal,
Always a pleasure to hear your compliments! I like a bit of variety in finishes and don't mind a few hammer marks to make it look like it was hand made and not machine as well.
