An assist

Post by Dedric »

I was hoping to make my 1st helm. However I can not weld very well and for the look I really want I was hopeful to find some assistance here.

I've thought about doing rivets and then hiding the rivets under the top fold as a separate piece, same for the bill. After reading a bunch on welding I know I do not have the skill necessary to weld this together to be able to hold up for long.

Is there anyplace I can order a welded top with the front bill also welded on?

The helm I plan to use is loosely based on this picture.

Hi there, Welcome to the AA. For your first Helm that one is a lofty goal unless you have alot of metal exp in other areas. Id try a Great helm of Pot helm with tabs on the lid first.

Lots of times you can just rivet things together instead of weld and the rivets still look nice. I think the visor would look nice riveted on but it might not be historicly acurate.

You can get helm tops at roughfromthehammer.com from Cet here on the AA.

Post pics of your progress if you get time.

Take care
