Hi
Hi there, How can I say no, Hal? Heres some pics of the helm now. I shortened the spike and made some new parts. I dont think it will come out perfect but you should be able to tell what it is when its done.
Take care

last 2
last 2, Still looks like the damn spike is too tall, Ive cut it down all I can, Ill have to make a new smaller flange for it to cut it down any more. The bulge on the forhead didnt come out the right shape either. Ill be putting on the decorative plates on the sides next, then the steel flanges for the horns. Those should be fun.

Hi
Rofl, thanks Mattmaus! I guess I meant I was cutting down on the fantasy stuff that I sell normally on my site. This was a customer request and honestly if this wasnt something Ive been a fan of since I was a kid, Id be building some historical goodies right now.
Hi Hal thank you, Yes Ill just rivet the horn to the flange, then the flange to the helm. Its not done like the in the pics I was sent but it should be close enough.
Have a good weekend guys

Thats not Fantasy - that's a reconstruction.
Didn't you notice the page full of debate on the historical accuracy of some of the detailing earlier?

Most of the time I do stuff to pay my bills. Whether that's armor, or pushin my broom at work.
Some of the time, I get to do stuff that I really want to do.
Very rarely, those two things can point at doing the same thing, and that's always very cool.
It looked better in my head....
Damnit.
Damnit.

Looking great, Pitbull. You're really getting the lines down very well, and I'm impressed with your horn selection and the spike work, although it may be a tad bit large for the overall silhouette of the piece. But it's artistic representation, so there shouldn't be any real harm in such discrepancies, which are often entirely debatable. My one real qualm with this project is that I'm fairly certain that Albion Swords has the exclusive rights to reproduce this piece of Frank Frazetta art in its real dimensions. The model you used, of course, was their very own, licensed product. Was this a consideration for you at all when you took on the work?
The Albion Film Swords Death Dealer Helmet
Now, if Albion were some mega-corporation who was obviously cheating the customer on their pricing of the product, I probably wouldn't have said anything. As it is, though, Albion loses money almost every year doing what they love - providing their customers with high quality reproduction historic and fantasy weapons through their two sites and various vendors. I do not believe that reproducing a product that they obviously have the sole right to create based on this painting is a very cool project to have taken on, really... Those people put a lot of money into obtaining those licenses so they can reproduce these arms and armor, and you're drawing away from their potential customer base by doing this. Not only is this particular helmet doing to be doing exactly that, but this project will send a message among the community that people can most likely get such items made less expensively as one-offs by small time armorers, and evade the necessity of purchasing fully-licensed art. Doesn't seem very fair, legally and ethically.

Hi Gerhard
Hi Gerhard, thanks for the good words.
Truth is I had no idea anyone had a copyright on the DD stuff until now.
For the record I will not be making any more of these helms because I see your point.
No need to question my ethics, they are fine and ill prove it, its my lack of homework that is the problem here.
Have a good weekend

Hello Pitbull,
My apologies. I did not mean to insult your personal ethics in this issue. I was trying to convey my message looking on the project in itself, rather than blaming you. I'd assumed that you may not have realized that the product was copyrighted and I am to blame for not making that clear in my previous post. I have seen the way you operate via your public correspondence on the Armour Archive and I know you are a gentleman and an honest businessman. Never did it cross my mind that you were possessed to evade the copyright and make some bucks off of a previously licensed piece of artwork.
Such unpleasant issues aside, I look forward to seeing the finished helmet. As a big fan of Frank Frazetta's artwork and possibly an even bigger fan of the work of Albion Arms, it will be very cool to see the piece compared to their product in its attention to detail and mastery of the craft. Cheers!

Hi
Hi Gerhard, Again thank you for the good words I apreciate it! I also apreciate you pointing out that the DD helm was copyrighted, I will make sure to look into this before taking jobs in the future.
Im hoping the horns balance out the spike size when they are mounted, Id hate to have to make a third one.
Id also like to add an apology to Albion, I promise not to build another one of these.
Have a good weekend
