so recently i set out to finish some new lamellar armor for GW adn i finished it today! Wooooo hoooo!
Recipe:
roughly 225 aluminum street sign plates cut for me by a local technical school, Over 2000 holes drilled and debured by hand, couple hundred feet of para cord, some some home made leather straps and trim, 3 buckles

add a few hours of elbow grease and what do you get?

What does it weigh?

Is that modeled in the Wisby lamaller?

it weighs about 12lbs total and it is modeled after any of the pictures i could find online of lamellar.
that and i did see somewhere some pics of some Russian lamellar. just tried to copy that a little.

oh and the plates in my ears are only going to get a little bigger.

i got to crunching some numbers yesterday and i believe i am only in at around $300 for my entire kit so far. That is counting my garb, helm, armor, swords, mace, my clamshell gauntlets, and my shield. I have been really fortunate in the SCA and i have had a load of help from a lot of the locals. With all their help and some hard work i have come up with a really close to period kit on a tight budget. I owe many people in my kingdom a Thank you, and a lot of people on the archive one as well.

I'd love to see pics and numbers for how you managed that! The lamellar is sweet, at least.

well some numbers for you...now this is not accounting what i have traded and have sold of my first few attempts at a kit to get to where i am now.
Hjalmr helm $100
lamellar $40
leather that i made my bazubands, gauntlets out of: $75
Plastic barrel for hidden legs: free
Clamshell gauntlets: $50 on AA
2 swords: $40
Shield boss: $15
mace: free (made from old sword and a free dog toy i got)
Shield and lamellar plates: free (have a buddy at the highway department who let me pick up some busted old signs to toy around with)
total:$320
that is not counting the stuff i sold to offset different costs and upgrades. Traded for my knee cops and pitbull C-Belt. Sold my old helm to offset the cost of the new hjalmr one, sold my chain maille (for profit), sold old bazubands, and 2 sets of old leg armor. All things considered i am probably well under that $300 mark after all things are accounted for.

I still have the wings in a box of scrap leather in my utility room. A memento of times past.

Varukh,

Judging from the way the armor hits you in the waist I suggest you test dropping to your knees with your helm on. Be careful the 1st time. You might find that when you do the top row of plates hits the underside of your helm face bars or worse, your throat.

Take it from someone who learned the hard way

i will definitely try it out. I did leave the bottom row a lot looser than the other rows so that it will flex more when i walk or drop to my knees, but i did not really try it out with the helm and gorget on.
