Hey fellas, I want an antiqued or dark finish on the helm, how do you suppose I could do that? The helm will be heat treated so I think processes involving high heat are right out. All Ideas welcome.

Ursus, verily thou rocketh.
I see bars welded inside the plate, and unsupported bars, I can't see how long the bars are into the helm and thus how big the welds are, but my idea is that repeated thrusts in the nose could make it collapse inward. (I've studied the rules in the past, but I know you update them from time to time).
The more I look at it, the less it look safe to me.
I see, and it is a good point. All I can say about it, as I have not actually seen the helm yet, is that the precursor to this helm had the same welded bar nose, and after two years of heavy use the bars were still rock solid. I am not so good a fighter that I didnt get thrusted in the face.

I'm sure it will do well, because all the guys here know their job. I hope you won't find a marshall bounce it, anyway remember to inspect your equipment regularly (this is not related to the helm in particular, but as a general note).
The bar is as likely to fail as any slat on a slat back helmet, or nasal on a helm. It's stoutly welded in and now the whole helm has been carborized and heat treated so the likelihood of failure is slim indeed.
Straight from heat treating, needs cleaned up and bracing removed then this baby is on its way to its new home.
Looking at the original, though the "eye sockets come down much further, which lend to the shape, there is an actual shape to the cheek/cheekbone area. Is there a way that you would be able, even if just a little, add some shape to that area to simulate the cheek/cheekbone shape?
EDIT **Scratch that...its shipped already.**
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit. -Aristotle
KenWrec you are right on about the eyes, But I just Didn't like them that way. Artistic license? And the cheek thing I agree with you one hundred per cent, it is just that I didn't notice my oversight until too late in the process, there wasn't much Brian could do about it by then.

Cadfael, I missed getting it shipped today, took longer cleaning it up from the heat treating than I expected it to take. Will go out Monday though. Alec, its made in mild steel but is case hardened (Carborizing and heat treating done by same outfit that has worked with Ugo and Vrin) with near full penetration of the carbon. As it was explained to me its now equivalent to a 1095 spring steel, hardened and tempered to a RC50.
here she is all cleaned up and burnished with steelwool
