Sabatons for a member, custom fit to his boots.
316 Stainless steel with brass rivets.
Dr. Talbots buckles and a brass strap bale by hal.

Question for you: How many sq. feet of steel do you usually end up using for a pair of sabs?

You will need a piece 24" by 24" with a little left over for mistakes.
I get my sheet from McMaster-Carr as well as the rivets.

I used to just close mine with a hook and peg. Now I'm reminded of the three pairs I have to do. Grumble grumble grumble.

My best and fastest closure was a large snap.
I attached the snap to the stainless just like one would attach to leather.
It was used on my wife's sabatons for fast on and off.
I do not think the 14C Affectionados would go for a 19C snap.

I wish I still had some pictures of the 16th century ones I did about ten years ago. They had greaves with articulated ankles too. Oh well-I'm making more soon.

Do you feel you loose any "stability" by not having 2 indexing pins and snekt hooks as the closure? Would you feel comfy having one of the big 280+ pound guys arch stomp you with the strap set up? At what point does the upturned toe when stepped on, articulation lock and at what weight is the fail point of the articulation?
Gorgeous work, very clean lines. +1 for grommeting the lace points, +1 for Talbot buckles

I have had only one report of a 280+ pound man stomping my clients foot.
The client reported that it was intentional.
He also reported that the sabatons were un-damaged and his foot did not feel any crush.
The articulation locks in the horizontal position and slightly beyond 90° at full flex.
