Quick question.
The kit I have is in mild steel. I live in Trimaris where you have to drink your air. What would be the best way to keep it protected from rust. How much does something like gun-blue do to protect against rust.
My boy is young and I don't trust him to always keep it oiled and such. I just want to make this spiffy and reduce on maintenance.
Thanks

Glauben Sie und folgen Sie Ihrer Ehre.
Believe and follow your honor. Without believing it, a man is very little, without honor, he is nothing, without following it, he has failed.

blueing helps a little. browning a bit more. parkerizing is great but lacks a period look. dont paint it...gads...yuck. if you take the time to oil blacken it it lasts quite a bit..but takes time and many layers to get a decent finish. if you go ahead and pre-rust it and cure it in oil it develops that weathered tough appearance of older helms that just seem to ignore the rust so much better than newer stuff. I becoming a huge fan of the wax finish...the micro-crystaline antique wax is the bomb. i heat the helm with a paint stripper gun a bit and rub the paste on and it draws into the seams and pours.
