Polish hussar breastplate articulation video

Post by Ironbadger »

Yep, thats exactly what it is-
A video showing the articulation of a Polish hussar breastplate.

I was really happy to find this- Puzzling out the articulation on these breastplates has been a bit of an obsession with me lately, and theres just no good information that I can find.
I just wish it was longer, and showed the internal construction.

I really need photos of the inside of one of these- though this was good enough to show me that the side pivot points are clearly sliding rivets as well.
(I thought they might be...but I had no source to prove it one way or the other.)
The cuiraisse is also more tubular than I originally thought, and most seem to be several inches longer in the torso than comparable western European breastplates.
(Many originals do seem to reach nearly to the hips...But since they articulate so much, flexibility does not seem to be compromised.)

I have also found that the various researchers are quite correct-
No two of these harnesses are the same.
Some so different that they aren't really comparable except in a general way.
(They both cover the same part of the body...)

So it appears that as long as you follow the general design in some fashion, almost any style you make will be authentic for a Polish winged hussar's armor.
