Lacing pattern for the lamellar order

Post by Gethin »

So here I am with 600 plates from the order and Tempelar Bob's instructions. I am lacing the plates up, but it is not quite right.
The plates are moving off center after being laced and there are extra holes not in use. I know I am missing something here.
Could someone tell me if there is a set of lacing instructions specifically for this hole pattern? If not, I would appreciate advice as to completing this.
Thanks.

Rhys -- I am actually going to start on mine soon. I can show you the pattern I plan to use, but you'll have to punch a 13th hole in every single one of them. After we submitted the order we kinda realized that Norman was right and there should be a hole in the middle of the plates (which Thorderman did not show, since he didn't see it under the rust).

If you know Geoffroi Bonfils, he already has his done this way, you can look at it.

Norman MAY be right... I laced together my whole coat without the additional hole, and have fought in it a couple times. It is flexible, protective, and works fine. Janos put forth a theory that those extra holes you are not using were for leather edging, which I am willing to believe. Anyway, the plate works fine unaltered. Don't worry about the 'shingling' effect, the flexibility & protective properties are not compromised at all.

Thordeman DOES show the hole.
Our source was an earlier illustration than Thordeman.

It CAN be done without the extra hole,
but the extra hole would be more accurate.

With the extra hole, you lace it like most standard lamellar -- with just some extra horizontal laces.

Thanks for answering. Image
I ran into someone who showed me what I was doing wrong. So I have that part down.
Now it is time to lace!

My problem wass that I mistinterpreted the way the lace started.
Instead of tying off one end and following De Tyre's instruction, I laced both ends through the first set of holes and then continued the double lace in an "X" stitch.
That is what I thought he was depicting. Image
