Guys,

This only barely pertains to armor, but I have a client that wants it for a particular product.

How do I do a removable, washable padding/liner?

Have you considered makeing a seperate shell to fit over the padded garment?

The M-65 Field coat is a good example, with buttons, velcro, zippers or a basting stich to hold the shell to the liner.

With foam padding you might be able to sew in pockets or channels.
sort of like trauma plates on balist armour or some of the coat of plates with "removeable plate"

Very much depends on the specific application. Say, for an instrument case, I might make a liner that would fit the case neatly, then do a layer of fibrefill or other batting, cover and quilt, then use velcro to attach the fitted and now padded lining to the case.

For some other applications it might make sense to tie it in, or perhaps use snaps.

I think more information is needed to offer focused recommendations...

If I were to be lining some kind of armor,I would probably quilt layers of cotton quilt batting because the ends won't fray badly, or do that with an outer shell of linen, then use hidden velcro because it's easy to replace.

I second Steve's question. Is this a helmet lining or what? Zippers and (rather a lot of) velcro come to mind then. Other pieces, other ideas may be really it.

And under helmets, the use of arming coifs also simplifies laundering -- they catch the sweat first, and get tossed in with the rest of the clothes. Reduces the need for frequent cleaning of the helmet liner.
