Coat-of-plates input, please?

Post by Lucian Ro »

I want to fashion something like the below coat-of-plates.

I have a few questions regarding this particular picture. I found the picture on this Croatian (I believe) site: http://www.man.poznan.pl/~ritter/Wierus ... index.html

It looks to me that this particular COP doesn't have plating in he chest area. At least, it doesn't seem to when we look at the back picture. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just that well tailored to the individual?
I've never seen this style if that is the case. Maybe, if it indeed does lack plates, this is for reenactor convenience/comfort?
If there are plates do we think it's one solid chest plate riveted under the leather?

2) Lames/faulds. There seem to be many; I count seven. Again, this seems like a lot but it may be my search-fu is under-coffee'd at the moment.
Does his seem right?

What it all comes down to, really, is I'm wondering if this is a legitimate late 14th century coat-of-plates worthy of attempting a recreation of. :D

Hi Lucian,

It's a polish site. (.pl extension). He has a backplate and a chestplate.

Looks like a german inspired, kussnach no 2 perhaps? see attachment, Coat-of-Plates.

On the myarmour forum you can find a picture of a auctioned german CoP. Looks similar.

So overall I am inclined to think this is a interpretation, not a recreation of a specific extant armour, but still historical accurate

Cheers,

Jan

Forget how the plates are tailored, lets talk about those fancy sabatons!

Its not far off the Lincoln Misericord "Falling Knight." Seems a reasonable interpretation to me.

Most of the ones I have seen like this tend to go to the groin or top of hips area. I think there may be some level of variation. My guess is they are simply horizontal bands. I am planning on making on sometime in the near future...
