Best Place to get 410 Spring Stainless

Post by Rey »

McMaster-Carr Sells Unpolished Mill Finish at a good price which is all I need but they only go up to 12"x24" pieces. Anyone know where to order larger pieces from at a comparable rate?

Thanks

I've tended to get mine from United Performance Metals. Even this unusual alloy is a commodity, so it's worth shopping around for the best price. The volume discounts can be insanely large, so try to buy 5 sheets or more at a time.

Slice of stainless wants $76.00 for a 12x24 of 0.05 410.
a 12x24 of .048 at McMaster is $24.77.
Stuff I will trade for: PWM controllers, steel sheet/rod/bar (4130/410/1050/toolsteel), ITC, casting supplies, wood tools, silver, oxpho blue, gun stuff (9luger/357mag/12g/7.62x54R/22LR), hammers, stakes, or pitch me!

Admiral Steel has it.
http://admiralsteel.com/
They don't list prices and I've never ordered from them, but I have talked to their reps.
They're an old school place where you have to talk to a person to get something ordered.
I don't know what their prices are like but I remember them being competitive when I looked into getting 1050 there.

But the other thing is I'm pretty sure you can't order from Admiral before 10am on a weekday and get next day delivery, like I do with McMaster.....

Rey asked where he could order larger pieces than the 12"x24" sold by McMaster. The prices at Slice of Stainless get much much better the less cutting that they have to do. The prices for 410 in 0.050" are as follows:

12"x12" $68 $68.00 per sqft.
12"x24" $76 $38.00 per sqft.
12"x36" $82 $27.33 per sqft.
12"x48" $90 $22.50 per sqft.
24"x24" $90 $22.50 per sqft.
24"x36" $105 $17.50 per sqft.
24"x48" $118 $14.75 per sqft.
36"x36" $125 $13.89 per sqft.
36"x48" $145 $12.03 per sqft.
36"x60" $163 $10.87 per sqft.
36"x72" $183 $10.17 per sqft.
36"x84" $199 $9.48 per sqft.
36"x96" $210 $8.75 per sqft.
36x120" $229 $7.63 per sqft.
48"x48" $179 $11.19 per sqft.
48"x60" $197 $9.85 per sqft.
48"x72" $224 $9.33 per sqft.
48"x84" $252 $9.00 per sqft.
48"x96" $266 $8.31 per sqft.
48"x120" $285 $7.13 per sqft.

You really need to order at least a 24"x48" sheet if you're buying from Slice of Stainless.

Most steel comes in 4'x8' sheets just like kydex and plywood. I find that 4'x32" is the most efficient parting for kydex corrazinas and my steel back and breast were pulled out of pieces that size as well. You will often find that full sheet cost + cutting cost + UPS is less then full sheet cost + uncut + freight shipment.
