Banging on Metal in Burnaby (suburb of Vancouver BC)

Hello

I'm planning on making noise in my shop next Saturday, thought that I'd let folks know and see if anyone is interested in playing with metal, since there is a scarcity of armourers in the area who do metal.

Drop me a PM or add to the thread and let me know if folks are interested: I'm planning on prototyping some greaves (cased) and sabatons, we might also get around to starting another pair of gauntlets.

I would be down for that, but I need to check my schedule first. If I can make it out is there anything you'd like me to bring? I've got a jigsaw, assorted stakes and hammers, a rack of steel, all that sort of stuff

Hi Chris

I'd say bring your current project and whatever stakes and hammers you'd like. I have a number of stakes, hammers and the like, as well as a Beverly so you may want to bring projects that need cutting out (jigsaws can be a pain)

I also have a moderate pile of of 20 Ga (0.040) stainless if you're thinking of a coat of plates, gauntlets etc. Did you want to try the Augsberg gorget pattern? I recall that you did a good job in the hinge workshop, so you can probably handle the neck hinge, although the plate shaping is a bit tricky. I'll drop you a PM with the address.

Sounds like Mark (Gaukler) may be dropping by, and we may have another one or two similarly geeky folks along:

If I don't end up in Bozeman, I might swing by with mini me just to watch, if that's ok with y'all.

Hey Scott,

PM me your address, I will be at work, but will try and stop by during or after, and see how things are coming along.

Cheers
C

I'll definitely make use of that Beverly. If you dont mind I'd like to bring my room mate, were planning on building him some Moro armour so I might as well get him to help with grunt work

Marc and Mackenzie are probably showing up a tad early (10:00 ish) and the girls should be started their binge of screen time by noon, so I'll ask folks to head on by for 12:30 and we will probably go until dinner-ish

Ted, if "mini-me" is interested in Kinect (Xbox) I anticipate that Becky and / or Ria would be more than happy to keep her occupied :)

Marc and Mackenzie need to head out at around 4:00, thus the earlier start time - I anticipate that they will be starting with greave patterns. I have both the 1480's gauntlets and the 1640 gorget prototypes available for playing with - Ted and Mackenzie are candidates for a good fit on the gorget.

I also picked up some spring stainless (17-7 PH) which looks interesting. The composition is:
Carbon 0.09 max.
Manganese 1.00 max.
Phosphorus 0.040 max.
Sulfur 0.030 max.
Silicon 1.00 max.
Chromium 16.00 - 18.00
Nickel 6.50 - 7.75
Aluminum 0.75 - 1.50
but it looks like it tempers like a mid- to high-carbon steel (martensitic) maxes out abouve 160ksi ultimate tensile, the annealed is pretty scary and it work hardenes crazily, but a bit of heat from the torch encourages it to keep its manners: should be interesting gauntlet material.

ArmourKris, drop me a PM, we can probably make alternate arrangements if need be.
