Hi,

I would like advice on fluting and shaping light (ee gauge or thinner) stainless steel. Are there fluting and rolling machines or tools? I own some of Hal's tools (they ROCK!). However I have heard there are autobody tools and other methods for light stainless.

Soft hammer?

When I shape my sabaton toes from light weight 316 SS I use a polished hammer and a form to raise over.

Hi Hal,

I've got your basic set. Could we move to either PMs or Classifieds so I can ask about buying some of your tools for fluting and shaping the stainless? I think I need to upgrade my tool set, and I totally forgot you built my sabatons out of exactly the gauge I'm looking for. Those were dancing slippers with Iron Man protection!

I replied on the PM and Classifieds as requested.

Yes some auto body kits are available at low cost.
They have several different shaped dollies.
The planishing hammer is useable, but needs a good polish.
A round planishing ball in itself is worth several auto dollies, in my humble opinion.

I have never used a bead roller before but have made 1/4" curved forming
tools for Roman helm bands.
