Dang! I thought Nike was announcing a medieval combat boot that looked extraordinarily period on the uppers, but had all of the engineering for firm foot support inside; and a non-obtrusive but durable high traction tread underneath.
My dreams are
DASHED!

One of the things I'm jealous of if my wife and womens access to period shoes. Every couple of months some fashion designer out there will be inspired by or re-invision (Copy and rip-off are so pedantic) some time period and duplicate the shoes. It's usually 18th - 19th century but my wife has found a number of passibly period from 10 ft modern shoes... for women. They are never available for men. Too bad, some 14th cent dress shoes could look real snazy with a suit.
I wonder if Nike realizes that this sort of advertizing has a NEGATIVE effect on sales?

Good point! And the women get some of the best boots, too!

Sometimes you can find suitable shoes at Walmart, for women, as you note.
But if they made some of those sandles/slippers from leather instead of suede...
