Baltimore Arms Fair 2014 - March 15, 16.

Once again, this time of the year comes around. I will be at table J-29 at the Baltimore Arms Fair March 15 and 16.
It is held at the Maryland State Fair Grounds in Timonium MD.
Come by, say hi. Visit the other tables. Most of the stuff there is guns, but they are generally older and this isn't a modern camo-crowd.
There is usually armour on my table and on several other tables. Swords are around, some polearms, etc.
I am usually willing to bring a few bits for people to play with while we talk.
This time John Cope will be there with me. I am sure we can arrange something to do for dinner Friday and Saturday night if people want to.
Come by, say hi.

Looking forward to it Wade.
I've tried to get the museum to give me a blank check to aquire some things. For some reason they are reluctant!

It does that. It annoys me too. I guess both have just settled on "third weekend in March" and we will never get to do both.

Once again, if anyone coming by wants to see/play with something that isn't to large from my collection, you can ask. I will then decide if the space in the car and insurance will allow it. I have often brought things just for people to look at.

I hope to be there as usual with Dave R and Tom Ball. There is some chance, though, that I will be called away on an errand of Filial Devotion. My Mom is recovering from a broken hip, and is due to be released from rehab then. I have told her that I will be there if needed.
If I can make it, if would be nice to see that greave/sabaton that we have been discussing. I will know more as the week progresses.

James, is MTA like MTT? I did enjoy that little demo you guys did at MTT.
I don't know if I'm to be in town for that weekend or not but if I am, I might come through.

Mac,
Good luck with that. Tell me the week before if you will be there/want to see a greave or two. I can bring them if people will want to play with them. There isn't a lot of magic to them, but they are kind of fun.
I assume Dave R. will still be there - I would like to see my B-3. Oh, right, I need to remember to have room to bring that home with me.

There's a slim chance I may make it, depending on how I recover from my bout with the oral surgeon this Monday: "You should have had that wisdom tooth out when you were 17! It's going to be a lot harder and riskier now."
Oh yes, and how my budget is holding up- gas, entry, food... Drey will be there, anyway.

I'll ask my better half tonight if we can go. It's $10 each, which is cheap around here!

I probably won't make it either

(I couldn't last year either), but 3 years ago I was able to check out some of Wade's extant daggers (awesome, they were! I took many notes) and picked-up some of his arrow heads to take home (which are the only things that I own that are older than I am....probably by several hundred years).

I won't be making it this year, a bit too far since my move.
I've been wanting to talk collecting with you, Wade.

Due to illness in the family I will not be there this year. A very interesting event, I'm sorry to miss it.
Y'all try to stay out of trouble!

Cool, see you there. tell me if you want to see anything specific.
It appears Mac will be there, and so I need to find room for the greaves and sabatons. I just need to remember.

Seems like every year I walk out... on the drive home there is something I am kicking myself in the pants for not acquiring... Oh well.
I'll be there with the usual crowd from Order of Seven Hearts except this year the 1st VA Regiment has asked me to do some recruiting so I'll be meandering about on Saturday in my Rev War kit handing out business cards.

I am starting to pack. Nothing terribly exciting up for sale. Some arrow heads, some knife blades, a few little bits of armour (really, bits, not worthy of the term pieces), some books, a couple of polearms and then some things for people to play with. Greaves for Mac and next a gorget for Cet.
We will drive up tomorrow. If you are going to be around and want to contact me to arrange a time, toss me a PM here with a number and I will try to call you back. I should be able to check every so often.
J-29 is way int he back near the middle.
There should be plenty of other things to see.

Hi Wade and John,
That was fun! I learned a lot about armouring in that short visit. Nick got tired of walking around on his crutches, but we enjoyed the event.

I agree Mac, a good time was had by all.
I was happy to bring things for people to play with. You got greaves, Dave got gorgets. And a few people played with the mail shirt I dragged along.
There wasn't a lot of armour to play with at this show. John got to play with lots of other things and I picked up a couple of things to help round out the collection. Nothing spectacular, but I expect I will be happy enough with them.

It was a great time! I enjoyed talking to all the AA members that turned out for the spectacle. A pleasure dining and talking armour with people who know what they are talking about. It was nice to add a couple more armour books to the stable. I have to thank Wade for letting me tag along and let his wife sit this one out. A good trip.
The show was a real insight into the collecting mindset at a level WAY beyond what is beyond my means.

Wish I had the scratch to pick up one of the wheellock pistols that were there for sale. They were priced a little far out of my range... by about $5000
I don't think I can part with enough organs to play that game! I'm already down a spleen.

Yeah. I thought I spend a lot. After seeing what some people buy, a full suit of spring stainless looks cheap, and even disposable.
Those arms Wade let me wear were sweet! John's gorget was art and I'm shocked Nick guessed which was the original and which was the reproduction.

He's smarter than the crutches imply!

If you think those arms were sweet, we need to show you some arms that really work. Those were probably mid 17th c. and pretty crude in operation. I have better ones.
There was a lot of money floating around in the background there. One helmet (I looked it up on the web) has a $42,000 price tag on it. I expect there were more expensive items there. That is out of my price range. I generally play with one fewer digits.

Argh! I completely missed this until I saw a picture of it on the Book of Faces. There's only one weekend a year I have a chance to stand around and soak up knowledge from some of my armor heroes (Wade, Mac, Gillaspie)... hopefully next year.

It was an intense 20 minutes of knowledge. Wade and John didn't know it (I could see from their facial expressions) but that was some intense learning at an intense pace. I need to do that again!

At some point I will start planning the next get-together at my place. If you thought what was going on in Baltimore was intense......
