I have been doing maille work for about 10 years now and as an intro to plate work I am currently working on making Thor z's fingered gauntlet for a costume I'm wearing later this year (Rassilon from Doctor Who for those of you wondering). I just finished printing out the pattern and making a paper mock up and it just seems massive to me. I have an 8 inch wrist and the cuff is coming in at aprox 15 inches around. Should i be shrinking this down or is this just my inexperience showing? And if so how much should I scale it down?

You have paper and scissors, you can easily develop your own pattern, and I will guarantee that will look much much better even if you make it in a dark room.

Well, Signo isn't completely off base here. Take Thor Z's pattern and make your own that sort of emulates it but that fits YOUR hand. Your hand may very well be a different shape that Thor Z's.

The bell or cuff may be a bit larger to slide over your hand.
It may also be a little larger to accommodate padding.

The pattern can be adjusted a bit.
I use a lot of poster board and cereal boxes.
This works fine for some pieces others with rolled edges, compound curves, or deap dishing may still need ting down before assembly.
