Lamellar of Thibeau de Montfort

Post by mik »

(This message has been edited to link to a
web page instead of images files)

Greetings all,

Here are some pics from the work of a very good friend of mine name Lord Thibeau de
Montfort (mundane Louis Landry). The lamellar was a project for a long time, but
the recent messages entitled "When
prototyping goes too far" gave him the motivation to get to work. BTW he also made
the complete piece out of cardboard before
he got to steel....

Thibeau's lamellar

All comments will be appreciate.

You'll need to put the pictures up on a site that allows linking from pages off of the site. Xoom doesn't and neither does geocities/yahoo apparently.

I have a Lamellar vest and was giong to switch to a COP. But I may reconsider now. Image

I have linked your pics for you.
* addendum. Xoom Sucks. Linking to the images don't work. You will have to copy the urls to your browser. It IS worth you time to have a look though.

Well... I have free web space both on XOOM
and geocity/hotmail, and they both have
problem linking to pictures directly :-(
Can anyone suggest an other free web service
that does not have the problem ????

Thanks

Wow that looks great. The crow wings are the coolest. Please please please let us know how to find, make stiff/not smelly attach etc. the wings of birds for helms.

Are the mufflers seperate pieces or are they integral with the sleeves? Is that a cuff on the mufflers or just a short leahter vambrace?

Filling out the shoulder flaps a little more to the front and back would (sp? alright brain you better work or I'm gonna poke you with a q-tip again) look better to my eyes. I've got no idea on wether it's historically accurate or not but I just think that lamelar shoulder flaps should be fuller.

Well, it's not a problem so much as a "feature" so you can't bypass their banners. I have taken to making a tiny page that just has the pics on it, then linking to the page. It takes a little time, but hey, it's free!

As Lu-Shan said --

You just need a few lines of code and you've got a basic HTML page to send folks to -
Case you don't know how:
(replace "{" and "}" with "<" and ">")

{html}
{body}
Any Text you want on the page.
{img src=yourpicture.jpg}
Some more text.
{img src=yourpicture2.jpg}
A bit more text.
{/body}
{/html}

Well, I'm glad that post helped inspire someone. My lamellar project has gotten bogged down due to shear inadequacy. The large floor mounted shear I have access to turns out to be barely able to cut it, assuming I put my entire body weight on the pedal and bounce up and down. My harbor freight shear was given away to avoid having to ship it in my latest move, so I'm temporarily out of luck. Image

Nice looking lamellar! Your comrade should be proud, he did a fantastic job! Cheers!

I hope my lamellar, which I'll assemble this weekend, will look that good! Funny thing, my lamellar plates and leather thonging arrived at the same time today, even though they were ordered months apart. It must be a sign from the gods!

549,467 steel plates??? Methinks it'd be a bit more than 25 pounds were that the case...

I like the leather scales at the armpit. That's a great idea.
That helm looks badass with the lamellar skirting, if a bit eastern.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments...

Mad Matt - I haven't seen the pieces yet,
should see them this week-end and will let
you know about attachment of wings. The
mufflers are in fact leather glove covered
with maille. So, no, they are not integral
with the sleeves, and the cuff is part of
the glove. Thibeau also told me he already
had made some changes to the lamellar since
the pic were took. He talk about the spoulders but I yet have to see what waw done.

Hob - I'm sorry to hear your project is
in stand by... look forward to see the end
result.

Garridan - Sorry about the confusion on plate
count. I corrected the WEB page. It is in fact 467 steel plates and 82 leather plates
for a total of 549 plates.... I also think that the leather plates at armpit are a great
idea. It look real cool and should add to
the comfort.... I sould have a chance to
try it on this week-end :-)

Guinness... use Maxi cord... ask for macrame cord at a local craft shop. I fight in leather lamellar right now, and thats what I use, it works great.

Is the undergarment to which the plates are fixed leather or fabric, if leather, what weight?

Hi,

Olaf MacBrome - I don't know about Maxi Cord,
but I can tell you that the Nylon he used
seem very resistant, and that event at short
distance it could be confuse with leather,
this greatly add to the look.

Willing Pell- Their is no undergarnment.
The lames are all laced to each other.

Mad Matt - About the wings attachment, have
a look at:
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1630218&a=12461998&p=46169357
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1630218&a=12461998&p=46173043

To all - I had the chance to try the lamellar
last week-end. The comfort of this is
incredible. It moves with your body like
cloth. The weight is very well supported,
using a good belt would also cut down a bit
on that. nd the look.... well it rocks :-)
I am pretty sure this will be my next armor
:-)
