This is something I have been thinking about doing, especially now that I'm getting a quillon/pommel set from Mandrake. Yours are awesome, and have definitely prompted me to kick myself in the ass and get started!!

T Bob, any chance that these coucld be adapted to suit a Roman gladius? A couple of friends of mine are experimenting with making authentic shaped and weighted ones out of rattan and it would be great if we could have scabbards for them as well.

The real trick of making a gladius scabbard is the ability to shape, then braze or solder the appropriate locket and chape. Now I presume you want to build the style common to the post-Republic period? The leatherworking is simple---it's the furniture that would be difficult for me (I can neither braze nor solder).

Then there's the question of fastening these to the scabbard.
