Where to buy steel

Post by Patchwerk »

Could anyone in the Baltimore/Washington area point me towards a good place to buy steel from? I'm going to be making CoPs and Lorica Segmentata, but I need a source for the steel. If they can cut the stuff too, even better, but not neccesary. Thanks!

Also check with the local SCA people

Potomac Steel is off of I95 south of springfield. They have cold rolled 4x8 sheets and stainless as well.

I recently bought a 4x8 of 18 g. cold for around 48 dollars. Unfortunately, they don't have hot roll sheets in anything approaching the gauge you need for armor. (like 1/4" and less is all cold.)

They also sell drops. It's hit or miss as to finding decent drops, it's usually 12 g. or thicker. They sell pipe, bar, square, and everything else as well.

They're open saturdays from 8-12. show up early because it gets crazy after 9.

Of course if you're closer to Baltimore there's probably something much better up that way.
