What are you doing with an unsatisfied customer

I'm sure everybody have already encouter that situation : a custom order, which was made very precisely, but it just doesn't fit.

It was a custom ordered by email and I followed his measurement to the letter. The only problem is that he made an error and the result is way to large for him.

So I don't figure that I could be held responsible for what happened but I don't like to have somebody disapointed with one of my pieces of armor.

I don't figure that I have to make another piece for him free of charge. I'm ready to give him a discount and move him at the top of my list.

What have you done in similar situation ?

If it's his mistake, I think you are being very generous. What might work out well is to take that piece, sell it on ebay for the best price you can get and have him pay the difference between that and the new piece. That way you're not out any extra, as you shouldn't be.

Might offer to sell the incorrect piece on ebay, and apply the selling price to his corrected order?

Definately good advise.
I admit that I am nowadys pretty okay with spotting the big errors as I look at the measuring chart. You can usually get a sense of proportion...so if one measurment is just way off the scale you can pick it up and give the customer a call.

I have on several occassions returned e-mails of measurments asking if they wanted armour or a lawn sculpture....becasue if I built it to the specs they sent each item would have to arrive on a pallet of its own.

However....since the mistake has been made, the aadvise giiven by the two folks ahead of me is very good iindeed. Be wary of moving him to the top of your list though, it will only piss off your other customers, who really have done nothing at all wrong (not even provided bad measurments) and who will be left waiting for longer then they should.

Frankly, I always charge a deposit that covers materials and a bit of time. If something hiits the fan and the work has been done THEN THAT DEPOSIT IS NON REFUNDABLE.
The customer is then free to order a new helm and I get to sell the origiinal on e-bay for the best that I can get.
