Locking pliers?

Anyone use these for armour construction? I see em on EBay all the time. They look like regular pliers but act like vice grips. I have a couple pairs that I lent out to my brother in law and he uses them for fender work on Peterbilts.

Ah, Vice Grips. Yep, they're quite useful. I use them for holding anything I'm dishing, holding pieces while fitting them, and a million other uses. We have 4 sets of the things, each different sizes, and they always get used. Wouldn't hurt to have 4 more, I suppose.

I use them to hold on the brass while the finish the edge (prior to riveting it on).

Leave it to the Californian to make ME look blonde... I have & use vise-grips and robo-grips... never thought of calling them locking pliers, guess that explains more than I should admit in public

A quick search on eBay turns up several things that ARE vice grips, several things that say they're 'like' vice grips and look identical (is 'vice grip' a trademark, perhaps?), and a few things with handles like vice grips but different and interestingly shaped jaws (such as
these).

Vise-Grip is the trademark name for the locking pliers made by the American Tool Companies,Inc.

Those are just welders vise grips. I've used them from time to time. The different jaws are just to hold different applications, mainly to the table.

Well I was going to scan the tool in question and post it. I asked my bro in law to let me have 'em back two days ago and when I reminded him again today he said "OH you meant *this* week?". Sighhhhhhhhh
On the up side, my brother in law is the proud owner of a plasma cutter so he's not all bad.

Anyway I'll get the tools back and get some pix.

Ahh, a plasma cutter...*sigh*...I used to be able to use the one at the ag shop at school, but my last day of high school was yesterday, so I cant use it anymore.

I made is a mission to cut out as many patterns of stuff as I could the last two weeks of school. I think I brought about five full sheets of steel in my truck and have got a big plastic crate full of parts that I need to make. It will give me something to do over the summer and save me some money from having to buy jug saw blades. Man, I dread having to bring out that jig saw again...

Dude, you could always keep on the teachers good side and offer to come in and help out once or so a week in exchange for use of the shop...

Found 'em! They're called rivet toggle clamps. For the life of me I could not remember what the heck they were called until this morning. I'll post pix tonight.
Pass me the silly stick. I need to smack myself.

Thanks Dragon, but for some reason that link doesn't work. I finally got off my dead butt and coded a quick page myself here:
http://home1.gte.net/res031er/tools.htmAnyway this is what I was talking about. My initial description was inaccurate. The toggle clamps are more like a cross between vice grips and a C clamp. This is the most common type I've seen. There are ones with deeper throats and various angles.
I use em to hold my steel to the leather when I'm measuring, marking and drilling for a proper fit.

A gent on EBay has a crud load of toggle clamps for sale for a $1.75 each if anyone is interested.
