Well, i'm on a weeks vacation in kelowan, visiting my parents and all that, now through my mother i have access to leather, some free, some not so free, but leather none the less.
kickin around with my stuff is a patern for a leather gauntlet, i'd give credid to the designer, but i know not who he/she is. anyways, someone from teh archive e-mailed it to me, cant remeber who at the second...
ok, off topic-ish there, so back on topic, i was wondering what thickness and type of learhte i'd be wanting, i'm assuming veg tan, but i have no idea about how thick.
help please?

If you have it in digital form feel free to send it to me.
sirnomadlv@aol.com is my address. I definitely need a pattern for some leather gauntlets.

Tybolt fighting legal in lions gate is two layers of 8 ounce untreated veg tan or one lay of 8 ounce treated(waxed,boiled,etr..).I like to use waxed 12 ounce leather.I don't know how thick yours is but 12 ounce is half a centmeter thick so you can go from there. Are you making demi or mittens that might play a big role in making them.

If you're expecting these to get hit, you'll want really thick leather, 12 ounce or better, and it had better be hardened

I've seen a few leather full gauntlets with *two* layers of thick, treated leather, even. They're your hands man... protect them well.
Make sure to have a decent amount of closed-cell foam padding (or equivalent) on the inside too, makes quite a difference.

I have a leather gaunt pattern from an archive member's site (don't remember whose...) but the pattern calls for 15 oz (or heavier) for the main pieces, and 5oz (ish) for the articulation.
G--
If anyone wants the pattern, I'll email it to ya - just let me know.

Well, i think i'll go with the 12 0z
and yea, i was DEFINITLY planing on hardening it....
uhm, it's... i'm not sure. It's all 1 piece, it wraps around your hand in a closed position by itself and you have to workto open it, or else undo the bottom of the cuff to slide your hand out.
Anyways, thanks for the help.

Tybolt,
In the six years I've been in my shire, we've had two broken arms/wrists. Both last year. Both through hardened leather gauntlets, well fashioned.
Draw your own conclusions. I don't fight in them anymore.
