How would you strap and pad a pair of Andy Ward's wonderful

Post by Aaron »

Howdy,

After MUCH frustration trying to make gauntlets (and now some SMALL measure of sucess with a Great Helm), I bought a pair of gauntlets from Andy Ward.

First off, they are wonderful. When you force the gauntlet around the weapon (I have no strapping yet, so I just push it), it forms a seal (effectively) around the weapon with great protection (I will test this later).

Now, how would you strap them?

Rivet in straps?
Sew in a glove and padding?
Glue in a glove and padding?

Do you have a picture of an Andy Ward gauntlet with strapping (or glove, etc...)?

Thank you for your time,

Aaron Miaullis

PS: I'm closer to getting on the field....but my suit will make Clay's first suit look like a suit of Maximillian Plate at the Met! Image

I used a combo of strapping and leaher hunter mittens on my friends pair.Be warned, drilling them can be difficult.I used a carbide drill bit.Go slow and use oil.

I own a pair of andy ward 100% 16 guage
stianless gauntlets, i straped mine like this
I found a pair of street hockey gloves
that fit me very very closely, then I
punched 2 small holes in the thumb of the
gauntlet and sewed the tip of the thumb of the
glove to the guantlet thumb
then I placed a strap across the palm and another
across the last lame, but set back far enough
to let the thumb go under the last lame when my
hand is closed around a weapon
hope that helps

Palm strap. Stitch a strip of med weight vegtan finger-width to the thumb, and to the first finger, make it longer than the finger it goes on by a half inch or so. Rivit the end to the gaunts.

Palm strap keeps them close to your hand, and keeps your fingers under the clam. Thumb strap keeps the thumb piece where it belongs, and the first-finger strap lets you close and open the gaunt at will without affecting your grip much.

Now, how's that? Image
