Hey everyone, I'm curious about armour name pronunciations, mainly because I don't know a bit of French. I know bascinet is bass-uh-NAY and a gorget is a gore-ZHAY, but how about other things? Cuisses? Is it Kweeses? Spawl-der? Spawd-ler? You get the idea.

What? You want to go back and edit that post with some punctuation so that it makes sense? Meanwhile I'll get ready for the belly laughs... Image

I have always heard that the English, having a wonderful distain for all things French, just pronounce the French terms as if they were English. Example: "burgeonet" becomes bur-go-net; "gorget" becomes gor-get. And so on...

Peculiar people, the English. Ypres (E-pray) becomes "Wipers." Ghent becomes Gaunt. Schwert becomes sword... of course to a German, "mail" is pronounced "pantser." Image

Ricardo Montalban strolls out onto a pier with a lush tropical landscape as the backdrop that is, of course, 'Fantasy Island!'
Now, a diminutive Herve' Villachez (as Tattoo) comes-a-runnin into the picture yelling his signature line...This time with a twist!

"Boss! Dis-tain! Dis-tain!"

Boy, I sure hope Le Brassey appreciates all this good humor for one little typo. Image

I find it interesting that the term 'Bevor', pronounced 'Beaver', by the English, in French means; 'to dribble'!

Makes you think, huh... Image
