How long do you leave something in vinegar to remove the mill scale? And it has to be completly submerged correct?

While I'm no expert, when I tried it, I just left a half gauntlet in for about 12 hours. I'm willing to bet it takes less time, but don't know for sure. All the mill scale was off, but it turned green when I took it out and then it rusted quite quickly.

I agree with the armourer formally known as Prince of Darkmoor, then as PoD, then as Clay, now as Prince of Darkmoor again ( Image you know I love ya bro)...I usually leave mine in overnight and then wipe it clean in the morning. Just make sure that it is fully submerged and that after you wipe it clean, you clean it off with a clean, water wet rag, then dry it off with another rag. This will keep it from turning green or rusting.

How long it needs to be left in depends ont he strength of your vinegar.

when it is a fresh batch it will probably only take 6hours or so...once the vinegar has de-scaled 10 plates it will take longer....I now have some plates that have been soaking for 3 days in some old salt/vinegar stauff...mostly I have just been too lazy and busy to take them out, but I did notice they were not ready after 24 hours.
