There's been a lot more interest in this silly critter than I ever dreamed possible. If the archive folks would like I'll be happy to provide a copy of the pattern and the instructions to be posted here.

A bit of history about this pattern. It derives from a basket hilt pattern that has been knocking around Meridies and the known world for many years. I first saw one in use by Sir Conal McDale, and I think it had been made for him by Count Richard Raefen and painted with Sir Conal's arms.

The shield basket is not terribly pretty, the best thing I can say about it is that it is simple, unobtrusive, and protective. It can also be modified easily to accomodate a larger hand, or provide even more coverage. I recommend wearing a half gauntlet with it as it does not cover the under side of the wrist in any way.

Ok, here we go. I've got the site up (very basic so far) and this is a test to see how well it works. Here's the shield basket pattern. If this fails I'll post a link.

I hope this works.

[edit]

*mutters* miserable <expletive deleted><expletive deleted> gutter snipe software ...

Ok, let's try a simple link

Well that worked at least ... The squares are 1" and the hole positions are approximate. I am going to revise the pattern a bit and will repost when it's ready ...

Site is starting to come together to.
