welded maille

yesterday i went to a black holo's concert, it kicked ass, but right in the middle of the mosh pit i encountered a guy in a chainmaille shirt, it was about 1/8th inch id rings, in wire that looked to be maybe half a milimeter thick(16 gauge is 1.5mm)
first thought that comes to mind is THAT POOR SHIRT! IT'S GONA GET THRASHED!!
then i realised that for some reason it wasnt, i ended up hangng out with the guy and it's some mexican welded maille.so does anyone know how you would weld maille that small? i twas a beautifull job, no visible welds or anything, looked like they were just made solid

It's machine welded. Part of the process you use to cut the wire also welds it. I just got a German welded shirt that similar to what you're talking about.
