Rivet Swage

Post by Lord Ogier »

Greetings all,

I think this was visited a while ago, but I can't seem to find the postings. I am lookin for a swage for riveting so I can stop deforming the dome head rivets that I use. Anyone happen to know where I can get one?

I do a lot of work with brass rivets and it really mashes the heads on those when you pien them against an anvil. :)

Thanks in advance.
With regards,

Halberds makes a riveting "anvil" that does that it's a tin alloy I believe. What I use (For which I have to thank Lewis Moore) is a block of aluminum. It works very well.

Making then is fairly easy I would think. Here is a "cheap" way I did it:

I took a piece of CD med carbon bar 3/4" x 1" and used a 5/16" drill to sink a small dimple into one end. If you get a piece that is taller than the depth on you vise, you can "chuck" it in the vise and it will sit on the sliding base of the vise.
:?

Dose that make sense?

I use bolts that I drill slight depressions in. I just clamp them in a vise and they are good to go.

If you want to look for a comercial one look under rivet "set" and not swage.

Most of mine were made by Pexto; but as I picked them up used I don't know if they are still available from that source.

In the past I've used small chunks of Al and Cu clamped in a vise. Both work well and are cheap enough to toss away without regret.

I have a big hunk of aluminum that I use as my rivet set.
