Januwiya- flat bottomed kite. 24" x 38" same shield war or tourney.

I use a gull-wing shield.
If you take a heater shield and cut it in half vertically then you will know what shape it is.

The flat spot (what used to be the top of the heater) is the leading edge...so the shield is worn like a fat vambrace.
The sweep (what used to be the point of the heater) is upwards towards my elbow)

I have the leading edge sitting three odd inches in front of my hand and the back edge sitting about 4 inches behind my elbow. This thing makes shield hooking (and general agressive shield technique) a joy...and a necessity.

I have used both curved and flat versions (the curve is along the same line as my arm. Think a normal curved heater and halve it again). I find they make no real difference and am currently using a flat.

I liive in Lochac (where the archers are fearsome) and find that if you are awake and with it, this shield will still protect you on the war field. In a tournament it is WAY COOL!

I can throw blows from many more positions then a big shield fighter and I have much better visibility because I am never blinded by my own shield...and it is FAST!!!!!

I had avery light version of this shield and found it actually too light. The blows were really starting to knock my arm out of position. The current version is just about a kiloo and works wonderfully.

I'm aghast, from your summation, mine's the smallest, not counting rounds, though I've never had a complaint.

did you really mean 1 kilo? I've got damn little surface area compared to most, fight very high and open and weigh in at about 5 kilos. Anything less and I lack the mass for agressive punchblocking ('course I'm just a little guy)

Horsefriend: Nope, at 5 kg, or approx. 11 lbs, you're shield is around average. Sasha's shield is tiny, tiny, tiny, at 1 kg / 2.2 lbs, but from the description, seems to work.

I meant size and weight ratio, I'm the 19"x28" at 11 lbs. (288 sq. inches/ 11 lbs.=28.2 sq" per lb.)
