Anyone purchase armor from Albion?

Post by jgalak »

The only review I found in the archives is of a belt they made. Has anyone gotten any of their armor? I realize it's not up to spec for SCA rattan combat, but I'm actually interested in thir ECW era stuff for SCA fencing, so the lighter gauge is not an issue. Their stuff looks pretty, but as with all India stuff, I'm worried about quality.

Thanks,

If you're looking for helmets...

This is an SCA light fighter who had a damn good idea. You contact him, and wait until he has enough interest to put in an order. He then places an order with one of these Indian companies, and charges you cost + whatever duty, bribes etc. are; works out to about $40. He includes plans for making the face guards for these with the price. Seems like a cool idea, contact him.

Oh well, looks like his prices have all gone up. C'est la vie.

Yes. His prices went up, but still a deal compared to the $250.00 you'd pay through Museum Replicas and such. Kevin (the Hound) O'Shaughnessy picked his up on E bay for under a hundred.( He will correct me if I'm wrong Image )
From what I've heard from people who have gotten them, some small repair/adjustments have had to be made in addition to the perf steel face plates. (resetting rivets, fixing strapping etc.)

Yes, I have ordered from Albion.

I bought a cervelliere from them. There's a picture of it at this address.

Albion's armor is very nice. It carries a premium price tag, but they have a very large selection, mostly in stock. With most armouries, when I asked about a cervelliere, they said "a serv-a-what?" Albion said, "Yes sir. What size?" That impressed me.

They are one of the first and best examples of a company that specifies exactly what they want from their Indian suppliers, and they get it.

I should also say that I placed my order just as they were packing up the whole shop and moving. The order got mixed up, and then I had to return one item that didn't fit. They were uniformly polite and helpful, and apologetic when they made an error. I would definitely do business with them again.
