Was wondering if anyone knows where to get patterns for these.

Thanks in advance,
Ulfar

Good Ulfar,
For information on gambesons you can try a couple of things. I have been trying to work one a gambeson for myself as well.

1. Look on the armoring essays there are a couple of links there to some gambeson pattern/info.

2. Also, check the stored archive of posts there are a number of different sets of discussions about gambeson construction etc.

Hope this helps,
Brandr

Got my pattern from period patterns. I wanted a tight fitting gambeson, so I just sewed up the sides until it fit like I wanted, then trimmed off the excess. I got the pattern here:

Period Patterns #101, Medieval Military Garments, has patterns for several, plus notes and references to help you figure out what style is appropriate for your time and place.

Medieval Military Garments can be purchased from chivalry Sports. I'm not sure of the web address, but I think you can order it online.

I got mine through their catalog. It was a little expensive though.

My wife first made gambesons by finding a man's shirt pattern that would fit me, without having a yoke (that's a little fold of material in the back, roughly between the shoulder-blades). She simply used this pattern (twice, once each for the inside and outside fabric), quilted the material with 1/4" of all cotton padding, and then connected the arms with large fabric tabs over the shoulders.

It's held up for several years now (five I believe, maybe six). It's only wearing out now, through shear use.

check here..

Padded Jack

the patterns are here on the archive but have not been added to the pattern archive.

I would suggest also that you contact Gaston as that he does have some experience with arming coats.

hope that helps

I think Talbots and Anshelm will start selling them relatively soon.

I had made my original gambeson, it was alright, but then I ordered one from The Gilded Lily. Best decision I ever made. She has been making them for sixteen years and does an outstanding job. Her prices are very reasonable. Ecxellent quality! Well worth checking out.

Nice brass & bronze accessories, but I never knew he made jacks.
