Coat of Plates for a fat bastard

Post by Cynaguan »

Okay, so I'm gonna make a Coat of Plates. I have looked at the patterns, read some stuff, etc. Now, is it at all feasible for me to simulate that whole wasp-y hour-glass-y silhouette so frequently seen on all those 14th century effigies? How do you do it?

Is this just something skinny-bastards get to do?

Oh, if only those effigies and manuscripts ever showed fat guys...

Keep in mind I'm 6'5" 370 lbs with really short legs.

Greeting Cynaguan for another Fat Guy. I do not know if the silouette can be duplicated by us but a good looking COP can be built. GAA Armouries has a good kit that can be expanded to most any size. Check them out here...

Either decorate your rig with vertical stripes or make it all black...for that slimming effect!
Then go up to your significant other and say, "Does this armor make me look fat?"

Bedlam, thats good. Cynaguan, sounds like I'm built like you but shorter (5'7" 255 lbs), and nope we just look fat. However, at least you're a TALL guy looking fat, which is much more impressive than a short guy looking fat.

I'm gonna jump in on the whole fat guy thing here... Make the COP so that the shoulders are bigger, almost football-esque. It makes us look much more muscular with smaller guts, and it's intimitading as all HELL on the field....

"Does this armor make me look fat?"

And in the words of Andrew Dice Clay:

"No, it's that big ass you're sporting that makes you look fat!"

I might try the shoulders thing. We'll see what happens.

If I had a bigger ass, the hourglass thing might be more workable. Unfortunately I tend towards a general "barrel" shape from my armpits to my waist.

Was wondering if there was any whacky thing to do with the plates or closures to get that whole in-at-the-waist out-at-the-hips thing.

At least one burger or steak a day, and plenty of potatoes, either mashed or fried...
I'm 17 now, but I can't wait until my metabolism slows down and I'm fat too!
Then I can be a real armourer...!

Ya know, if we got all us fat asses together on the same side of one battle, we could just roll over our enemies...... or we'd create a new fault line when we all fell over....

all the fat guys on one side? That would be an interesting spin-off of the 'Giants v. Dwarves' battle at Pennsic. 'Endos v. Ectos'? Put the Endos at the top of the hill for a great mucking charge...

Yeah, it would be totally grim Image Our combined orkish(shorter) and ogreish(taller) statures would completely overwelm the smaller, weaker, skinny, wittle types.

Can I bring my axe instead of a polearm though?

Laugh if you want, but the more I think about this, the more I REALLY want it to happen at Pennsic XXXI. It would be sooooo awesome... and I have my polearm ready....

Okay, I can't leave Galileo hanging out in the wind like that (he might blow away). I'm a 180#, 6'2" stickjock (emphasis on the word STICK there) who only has definable shape while wearing his entire kit (which weighs another 55#). So there's at least TWO of us around here! Image
