I was thinking of making a brig using the patterns form the archive.http://www.armourarchive.org/patterns/brig/15thBrig.jpg But was unsure what sizes to make the plates and where abouts they sit. Does anyone have any more detailed plans with printable patterns and material choices? thank you for any help you can give me.

I'm trying plates four and five inches wide by two and five eighths tall. There will be L-shaped lung plates, and there will be plates directly over the spine, i.e., no plate ends will butt on each other over the backbone.

Make the shell garment first, then fit the plates to that.

For maintenance reasons, I admit I like nonperiod materials in this application, like 18 or 20 gauge stainless, or plastic.

I was thinking of stainless. maybe left overs from the facrciation shop or something. 5/8ths, thats not much at all. thats a lot of plates that i'll need.

would a doublet pattern suffice. i have one and i would have thought it just needs another half inch adding for plates and such.

A doublet pattern is exactly what you're going to use anyway.

Oh, and that's not 5/8", but 2 5/8".
