A thought on commercial rivetted maille

Last night I was talking to T-bob, and had a bit of an idea involving commercial rivetted maille (of the round rivet/ indian persuasion). I understand that using authentic wedge rivets and peircing rather than punching the rings adds a great deal of time and effort to the process, driving the price up.

Anyone have a clue as to what cost difference, if any, would be involved by using rectangular headed round shafted rivetts? Assuming they are all done from the same side, the outward appearance would be similar to a wedge rivet, even under relatively close inspections. The work done by the manufacturer would seem to be almost the same as a round rivet...

any ideas?
